Every venue targets 70-90% recycled material content - molded ocean plastic, tyre-rubber matting, fly-ash concrete, reclaimed invasive-species timber. Local sourcing first.

The adjacent Melkbosstrand WWTW supplies a closed loop for lagoon top-up, surface dust control and fynbos irrigation, with UV filtration to keep water safe for athletes.

Water economics

The world's first action sports venue run entirely on recycled municipal water.

A tertiary treatment upgrade at the Melkbosstrand WWTW - UV plus multimedia filtration - supplies the surf lagoon at R2-R8 per kilolitre against a potable rate of R35-R45. Over a 40-year lifecycle that arbitrage is worth R90M-R250M, and it makes the claim certifiable rather than aspirational.
